South West Surgical Referrals
Sometimes our pets may require more specialist treatment than a general practitioner can provide. In the past, this has often meant having to travel significant distances to visit referral centres for treatment which can be stressful for both you and your pet. This is why Molecare Pet Vets have started to use South West surgical referrals.
Introducing Katie Lenton BVSc CertSAS MRCVS
SW surgical referrals is a mobile referral surgery service provided by Katie Lenton BVSc CertSAS. Katie is an RCVS recognised Advanced Practitioner in Small Animal Surgery who has many years of experience in both first opinion and referral practice. ‘Advanced Practitioner’ is an official recognition of a veterinary surgeon’s particular knowledge and skills. The list of Advanced Practitioners provides a clear indication of those veterinary surgeons who the RCVS have accredited at postgraduate certificate level (Masters level 7) who have demonstrated knowledge and experience in a particular area of veterinary practice beyond their initial primary veterinary degree, and who have also confirmed that they are up to date in their field over and above the minimum requirements for continuing professional development. It is important to understand that Advanced Practitioners are not RCVS/European Specialists and so sometimes referral to a tertiary referral centre will be more suitable.
Katie is able to visit Molecare Pet Vets to perform more advanced surgical procedures in our operating theatre. She is also able to provide our vets with advice and support for any surgical cases we might see. Katie has already performed many orthopaedic and soft tissue surgeries at Molecare including fracture repairs, patella luxation surgery and BOAS surgery with great results.
